ABOUT US
Our Story
Before our founder, Claudine Andre, began volunteering at a Congolese zoo, zookeepers didn't know how to keep bonobo orphans alive.
Zookeepers are often trained to keep a professional distance from animals, for the animals' health and safety.

Claudine did something radical – she treated these orphans as if they were her own children.

OUR TEAM
We wouldn't be successful without our international team. As an organization founded inside the Congo with the intent to support the Congolese ecology and economy, 97% of our staff is native Congolese.

The international branches of Friends of Bonobos raise money to support our rescue, rehabilitation, and education work in the Congo.
With your help, our fundraising arms allow the Congo main branch to make the magic happen: rescue, rehabilitate, and release bonobos.
